Troutman Man To Serve Prison Time For Firing Shots Into Occupied Building

August 7, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

Raequan Dayshon McCombs

A Troutman man pleaded guilty Wednesday in Catawba County Superior Court to firing a handgun into an occupied Long View club in 202024. He will serve 17 to 33 months in prison.

Raequan Dayshon McCombs, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of discharging a weapon into occupied property. Superior Court Judge David Strickland consolidated the three counts into a single judgment.

The case began April 10, 2024, when a Catawba County magistrate issued a warrant charging McCombs with two counts of attempted first-degree murder along with the weapons and property counts. Long View police arrested him five days later.

A Catawba County grand jury indicted him that June on the two assault counts and the weapons count. The indictment alleges he fired .40 caliber handgun into The Treasure Club, while it was occupied. The location is listed in the indictment at 2160 Highway 70 Southwest.

Prosecutors dismissed the two attempted murder counts.
