No significant developments in the Alexander County triple murder investigation on Monday. Sheriff Chris Bowman said there were no searches conducted for the yet to be located body in the Catawba River on Monday. The Sheriff also said that investigators have yet to locate the two men said to be acquaintances of the family. Jose Carlos Mendez and Luis Fernando Sanchez were last seen on Friday June 14th, one day prior to the killings. The two are not considered suspects.30-year old Areli Aguirre-Avilez of Taylorsville and 16-year old Heidi Wolfe of Wilkesboro have both with been charged with three counts of first degree murder. Search warrants revealed last week that 11-year old Angel Pacheco and his sister 12-year old America Pacheco were shot inside the home in Northern Alexander County. The documents also reveal that the mother of the children, Marie Calderon, age 38 was shot and killed as well. She escaped the dwelling after being shot. Wolfe told investigators she ran over Calderon with her car on orders from Aguirre-Alvilez. Wolfe said Calderon’s body was taken to the Catawba River and put in the water. The search warrants also stated that Avilez poured gasoline into the mobile home and set it ablaze with the bodies of the children inside. Bowman also said this afternoon that the citizenship status of Aguirre-Avilez is not certain.
Both suspects remain in jail.
