Teen Fatality Shot In Burke County

On May 19, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4442 Mount Olive Church Road in Morganton in reference to a reported cardiac arrest. During the 911 call, the caller advised that someone had been shot. A second caller later reported that multiple people had been shot.

Deputies arrived on scene and located two victims. One victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while the second victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. EMS responded to the scene and pronounced one victim deceased as a result of the injuries sustained.

The deceased victim has been identified as Dawson Timothy Whisenant, age 18, of Morganton. The second victim was identified as Timothy Floyd Whisenant, age 47, of Morganton.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the District Attorney’s Office and this investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. At this time, no charges have been filed.
