A Taylorsville woman is facing a series of felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation by the NC Department of Insurance. On Saturday, Alexander County Sheriff’s Office Deputies served warrants against 31-year-old Shakyra Lashay Smith at her residence on Martin Luther King Jr DR. The charges include five-counts of felony insurance fraud and 2-counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense. Catawba County warrants served include felony failure to return a hired motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny. Smith was also charged with resisting arrest. She remains in the Alexander County Detention Center.
