Taylorsville Man Returned To Jail

A Taylorsville man is back in jail.

44-year old James Ashley Sweet was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center on Tuesday for felony probation violations and felony habitual larceny.

As reported, Sweet was placed in custody on February 16th on a warrant for parole violation.

Sweet was released from prison in August of 2023 after serving a 14 year sentence for a series of convictions for felony breaking and entering and larceny and felony larceny of motor vehicles.

Sweet was shot on the evening of January 21st at a location on McAlpin Lane in Alexander County. Christopher Michael Carlay age 58, of Taylorsville, was arrested at the scene and charged with the shooting. Carlay is free on bond and is scheduled to make an Alexander County District Court appearance on Monday, April 15th.

Sweet has charges awaiting trial in Wilkes County for felony and misdemeanor larceny. He has a court date in New Hanover County on April 30th for multiple counts of felony habitual larceny as well.
