Taylorsville Man Implicated In Catawba County Mass Shooting Has Been Released From Custody

June 9, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Raekwon Malik Craig

Raekwon Malik Craig, 19, of Taylorsville, was arrested on Wednesday, June 4th as part of the investigation into a mass shooting that killed one and injured 11 in Catawba County on June 1st. He has not been identified as a shooter but is charged with three counts of aiding and abetting a person under 21 years of age by allowing the possession of alcoholic beverages.

Craig appeared in court for the first time on last Thursday and was given a $7,500 secured bond. He is no longer listed as an inmate in the Catawba County Detention Center.

Craig is identified by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office as one of the party promoters through social media platforms like Snapchat. Flyers posted on Snapchat advertised the gathering at a residence in the Mountain View Community.

Investigators believe Craig was promoting a second party that was set for the following day.

A Judge has ordered Craig to not possess any alcohol, controlled substances or weapons. He was also ordered in court to not promote parties or events while on pre-trial release. In addition, Craig is forbidden from communicating with any victims or suspects in the mass shooting.

Craig has a felony conviction from November 2021 for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in Alexander County. Court records indicate Craig was given a suspended sentence for the incident. Craig was 15 at the time of that assault.
