Suspect In Newton Officer-Involved Shooting Is Now In Custody

The suspect in a case involving an officer-involved shooting is in custody. 19-year-old Ahmon Jamir Henderson of Salisbury is being held at the Catawba County Detention Facility. He’s charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting a public officer.

The incident occurred Tuesday at Sandalwood Apartments, on Sandalwood Court in Newton. Police responded to a trespassing complaint and Henderson allegedly exited a shed and ran toward officers. During the encounter, one officer discharged their firearm, striking Henderson in the leg.

He was taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment. Police were not notified before the suspect was released. He was apprehended this afternoon and placed in jail without bond. A court date was scheduled for Wednesday (February 4).

19-year-old Kalis Davis Farley of Sandalwood Court in Newton was also listed in custody on felony counts of harboring an escapee, accessory after the fact and obstructing justice. She was being held under $300,000 bond and has a court date Wednesday.
