July 1, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Keandre Terrell Cauthen

Charges have been filed and an arrest made following a drive-by shooting on Sunday in Statesville.

18-year-old Keandre Terrell Cauthen of Statesville was arrested by Statesville Police early Sunday evening. He’s charged with discharging a firearm into occupied property and misdemeanor larceny.

As previously reported, on Sunday, June 29th at 1:35 pm, Officers with the Statesville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of Walmart on Crossroads Drive.

Officers found a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire. Several shell casings were also located at the scene. After speaking with witnesses and reviewing video surveillance footage, investigators identified a suspect vehicle that had already fled the area. Prior to the shooting, the suspects in the vehicle had been involved in a shoplifting larceny inside the store.

The Statesville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded and began an active investigation. A short time later, the suspect vehicle was located at a residence, where one of the individuals involved was still present.

Cauthen was taken into custody without incident. He received a $100,000 secured bond. A second suspect involved in the incident had not yet been identified. This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406.
