At approximately 8:00am this morning, the Statesville Police Department received reports of a shooting in the 1900 block of Gay Street. Upon arrival, officers found James Adrian Griffin, 43 of Statesville, in the roadway with an injury to his head. Inside the residence, Tasheka Reid Aleryani, 47 of Statesville, was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
Medical assistance was provided by the Statesville Fire Department and Iredell County EMS. Aleryani was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, while Griffin was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Griffin and Aleryani were involved in an altercation within the residence, leading to Griffin firing shots at Aleryani. The incident is under investigation by the Statesville Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit and Criminal Investigations Division.
