Statesville Police Investigating Fatal Collision

The Statesville Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that occurred early this morning on Davie Avenue.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, emergency personnel responded to a traffic incident involving a 2024 Volkswagen and an electric scooter. According to the preliminary investigation, Matthew Miller, 39, of Lenoir, was operating the Volkswagen when the collision with the scooter occurred.

The operator of the scooter sustained critical injuries and was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital where they were later pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

SPD investigators remain on the scene collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
