Statesville Man Charged With Soliciting Child By Computer

21-year-old Nowlin Xavier Crooks, Jr. of Statesville has been arrested by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers on a long list of offenses. He’s charged with soliciting a child by computer, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods or property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, Crooks was charged with three counts of failure to appear. He reportedly failed to appear in court on charges of felony possession of marijuana, breaking & entering, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Crooks was also charged with probation violations in connection with charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as one additional misdemeanor probation violation.

On December 22nd, Crooks was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility where he is being held without bond. Bond on the probation violations and the failure to appear charges was set at $18,000. Appearances in District Court were scheduled for December 29, January 8, and January 9 in Newton.
