Barry Thomas Moose Jr, age 44, is charged with two counts of felony burning of an uninhabited building according to a press release from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 10 a.m. on Sunday, a structure fire was reported at a vacant residence in the 100 block of Old Miller Road in western Iredell County. When deputies arrived on scene, it was quickly determined the house fire was suspicious, the sheriff’s office said. The house was unoccupied at the time. No one was injured.
Hours later, deputies responded to a second fire at another vacant residence in the 1300 block of Island Ford Road. The two scenes are less than one mile apart.
Deputies and fire department personnel were alerted to a suspicious person seen in the area of the house fire. The suspicious person was seen carrying a flashlight and walking through the woods away from the fire, the sheriff’s office said.
A perimeter was established by deputies and K-9 Levi was utilized to attempt to locate the suspicious person. K-9 Levi tracked the suspect and led deputies to 265 Old Miller Road. The sheriff’s office said the home is where Barry Thomas Moose Jr. lives.
The Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of both fires to be arson.
