Statesville Jewelry Story Robbed Friday Afternoon

August 16, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

A man armed with a hammer robbed a Statesville jewelry store early Friday afternoon.

The Statesville Police Department says that around 12:25 p.m., a man came into Kay Jewelers, at 187 Turnersburg Highway. He was armed with a hammer and threatened store employees. The suspect used the hammer to smash display cases and took several pieces of jewelry.

The man then left the store and got into a white BMW, which had the license plate covered. A short time later the BMW was found abandoned at the dead end of Pump Station Road.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office assisted by setting up a perimeter and using a K-9 unit. Despite a thorough search, including a K-9 tracker and aerial surveillance using a drone, the suspect was not located.

The suspect is described as a white male with long dark hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, black sneakers, dark gloves, a gray shirt with a short-sleeved black shirt over it, and a black covering over part of his face. He was carrying a black and red duffle bag.

The Statesville Police Department urges anyone with information related to this robbery to come forward.
