New Statesville Coach Breon Holmes
A 2009 Statesville graduate, Holmes leaves the same position at Cox Mill High School to fill the vacancy at his alma mater.
Earlier this month, Rydell Cowan accepted the head coaching job at South Iredell High School, leaving Statesville after four seasons in favor of returning to the school he graduated from in 2000. “It means a lot, being able to come back home and being able to walk the hallways I walked when I was a student, knowing how much Statesville made an impact on me being a man and developing me into who I am today,” Holmes said Friday.
Holmes spent the last three seasons as Cox Mill’s head football coach. The Chargers were 11-21 overall and 8-11 in the Greater Metro Conference under his direction with an appearance in the 2023 4A state playoffs, which pre-dated the new 8-classificaiton system.
Prior to going to Cox Mill, Holmes served three seasons as associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Charlotte’s Ardrey Kell High School. There, he helped the Knights to three straight playoff appearances.
Holmes was an assistant for three years at Charlotte’s Providence Day School before his stint at Ardrey Kell.
Holmes graduated from Methodist University in 2013 and was an all-conference lineman during his playing days (2009-2012) in Fayetteville.
