The following is a statement from Alexander County Schools
This morning East Alexander Middle School was put into a Code-in (all students and staff secure inside the building). This action was taken in response to student reports of a potential threat on the school campus. Although this was not an actual threat to our students, staff, and school – it did provide valuable information for emergency planning and preparedness.
As we reflect on today’s events, we want to express our gratitude for many things. First, several of our students felt comfortable communicating concerns and providing valuable information to staff which allowed swift action in alerting the authorities who assessed and resolved the situation.
Second, we appreciate the timely response of our law enforcement officers and their service to our school and community.
Third, we appreciate the cooperation and trust from parents allowing us to protect, care for, and educate our students.
We want to take this opportunity to encourage parents to speak with their children about their role in school safety. If a student notices any suspicious or threatening behavior or has information about a possible threat, they should immediately report it to school personnel. It will be investigated and, if appropriate, reported to law enforcement.
Together, we can keep our students safe and focused on learning.
