The investigation bean on May 8th when a report was filed with the Sheriff’s Office regarding a sexual assault involving a 12-year-old female. The victim reported to a school staff member she had been sexually assaulted by a friend of the family.
Iredell County D.S.S. was informed of the allegations. A safety plan was placed into effect by D.S.S. because the suspect lived in the same home as the victim.
The victim was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center where the suspect was identified as Richard Alan Kruger. The victim said Kruger sexually assaulted her multiple times in multiple locations in and around Mooresville. The incidents allegedly occurred from the summer of 2018 through May of this year. Detectives interviewed several other witnesses and gathered evidence.
Arrest warrants were issued and Kruger was entered as a wanted person on the Iredell County “Most Wanted” list. He was arrested on May 29 by Officers with the Lexington County (South Carolina) Sheriff’s Office. Kruger was extradited back to Iredell County on Monday (June 10). He was held under a $1-million secured bond. He’ll appear in District Court on July 2.
