South Caldwell 4 Alexander Central 3
Taylorsville: South Caldwell scored twice in the 6th inning and won the conference title in Taylorsville.
As always, it was close and it didn’t come without controversy.
Alexander Central took a 3-2 lead in the top of inning-six when Alyssa Chapman’s bunt scored one run and Lyla Mayberry’s single plated another.
South came to bat in the bottom of the inning, they were the home team despite the game being hosted by Alexander Central. With two out and pair of runners on base, a ball fell in left field but the South runner tripped and fell while rounding third. She was able to scramble back to the bag. The home plate umpire ruled the runner was impeded and awarded her home plate. Another run would score and the Lady Spartans led 4-3.
ACHS went down in order in the 7th inning and South Caldwell took the title.
The state playoff pairings will be released on Monday.
