Taylorsville: Somebody had to lose, nobody accepts it but it’s true.
The Lady Spartans survived a tension-filled battle to advance to Round IV of the State 4A Playoffs. South’s Mallory Winebarger singled in the 5th inning to drive-in what turned out to be the winning run.
Alexander Central trailed 4-1 going the bottom of inning 3. Macy Law doubled in a pair to knot the game at 4.
AC loses at home for the first time on the season and finishes the year at 26-3.
It was the 4th time the two powerhouses had met this season. Both teams have won twice but South Caldwell got the one that mattered most.
South will advance to play at West Forsyth on Friday in the Regional Semi-Final.
