Hudson: South Caldwell got a taste of revenge Friday night beating Alexander Central for the league tournament title. Having fallen to AC in the two regular-season games, the Lady Spartans prevailed thanks to the long ball. South hit three round-trippers and it proved to be the difference.
Syndee Bumgarner hit a three-run shot in the 3rd to give South Caldwell a 4-1 lead. Maddy Moore homered for South as did Holland Weisner. The Spartans led 4-2 going to the 6th when Alexander Central tied it but South plated 3 runs in the 7th to take a 7-4 lead. AC added two runs in the 7th when Lyla Mayberry doubled but the rally fell short.
Kyla Hamby went 2-4 with a solo homer for ACHS. Jenna Mason and Lyla Mayberry both had a pair of hits. Macy Law had two rbi.
South improves to 24-2 while Alexander Central’s 21-game winning streak ends, they’re also 24-2.
The two could be destined to see one-another again in the State Playoffs that begin next week.
