On Saturday, October 3, citizens throughout the Catawba-Wateree River Basin will have the unique opportunity to participate in the largest 1-day river cleanup in the Southeast: the Catawba Riversweep. Led by Catawba Riverkeeper, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and restoring the Catawba-Wateree River Basin, the Catawba Riversweep will offer nearly 50 cleanup sites for volunteers to choose from at lake and river locations from the foothills of North Carolina to the midlands of South Carolina. By giving three hours of their time, hundreds of volunteers will demonstrate the power of collaborative and cooperative efforts as they remove thousands of pounds of trash to improve the health of our shared waterways.
If you’d like to volunteer, cleanup is scheduled for Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00 at the Wittenburg Access Area in Bethlehem (175 Wildlife Access Road, Hickory, NC 28601). For more information, contact Kaity D’Angelo at kaity.d@catawbariverkeeper.org or704-679-9494.
