Word of the Day: Lapland [lap-land] Lapland is a region (mostly above the Arctic Circle) in northern Norway, northern Sweden, northern Finland, and the Kola Peninsula of the northwestern Russian Federation. The region is home to several hundred thousand reindeer. Lapland is derived from Lapp, the name Scandinavians ascribed to the Sami people, who have sparsely inhabited the region for several thousand years.
