Restrictions Placed On Lenoir Hotel Following Complaints About Criminal Activity

September 23, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

New restrictions are now in place for a Lenoir hotel after repeated complaints from the community about criminal activity.

The North Carolina Alcohol and Law Enforcement Division (NC ALE) announced Friday that Superior Court Judge Steve Warren signed a consent judgment placing restrictions on the Red Roof Inn, located along Blowing Rock Boulevard, following repeated criminal offenses and community complaints. The judgment and final order of abatement was signed earlier in the week, on Monday, September. 15, after an investigation brought by the town of Lenoir on behalf of the state.

NC ALE said Lenoir Police Chief Andy Wilson had requested assistance from the agency to address persistent illegal activity at the property. Based on investigative findings, a civil nuisance abatement case was filed in Superior Court.

The order restricts the property from allowing permanent residency or rentals by those who live within 25 miles of the property. The business must also retain security personnel and ensure that future nuisance activities are prohibited.

Chapter 19 of the North Carolina General Statutes defines nuisance activities to include crimes involving drug laws, recurring violence, breaches of the peace and ABC violations. The law provides a civil remedy to abate such criminal acts and their impacts on the community.

“We are hopeful that these restrictions ensure a successful business here in Lenoir,” Chief Wilson said. “I appreciate the cooperation from the business owners and citizens of Lenoir to work with our law enforcement partners and restore this property to the status quo.”

“North Carolina’s nuisance abatement law is an effective resource for addressing properties that consistently attract criminal activity,” NC ALE director Bryan House said. “We value our strong partnership with the Lenoir Police Department and appreciate the continued support and involvement of the local community.”
