According to Alexander County Fire Marshall Chris Hicks, a 911 call was received just prior to 7:30 pm on Tuesday. Firefighters were sent to 2232 Old Wilkesboro Road. Units arrived within six-minutes to find the fire had been extinguished by a neighbor using a garden hose.
Damage was done to the dwelling and the porch.
The investigation according to Hicks, has determined the cause of the fire to be improperly discarded smoking material.
Departments responding included Sugar Loaf Fire Department, Taylorsville Fire Department, Alexander County Fire Marshal’s Office and Alexander County Emergency Management.
Hicks, in a press release commended the neighbor for their quick action in preventing what could have been a more serious emergency.
