A portion of US 64-90 is closed at this time following an accident shortly after 1pm.
A trench collapsed in the parking lot of Big D’s Diner trapping a man. His condition is unknown at this time. The victim was part of a work crew replacing a culvert. Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman says only one person was involved in the mishap.
US 64-90 is closed from the intersection of NC Highway 127 to Ellendale Fire Department Road.
