Pedestrian Struck And Killed In Morganton

A person crossing a roadway was struck and killed by a vehicle in Morganton on Wednesday. Burke County Emergency Communications received a report of a motor vehicle collision around 7:40 pm on South Sterling Street near Bickett Street. Emergency responders arrived to discover that a pedestrian had been struck while attempting to cross South Sterling Street. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

South Sterling Street was closed for approximately three hours as officers conducted an investigation of the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that the pedestrian was crossing the roadway in a dimly lit area when they were struck. No charges have been filed in this case at this time.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
