A woman walking along a Wilkes County roadway was struck and killed before daybreak on Friday morning.
21-year old Shantae Kelly of Wilkesboro was walking along Rock Creek Road near Highway 268 when she was hit by a van according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol. The mishap was reported to have occurred in the darkness, shortly after 6am.
Reports indicate that the victim was walking in the roadway with her back to traffic. The investigation is ongoing.
