March 9, 2021 By Richard C. Gilbert

39 children and 9 adults were evacuated after fire broke out at a daycare facility Tuesday afternoon in Alexander County.

Small Hands Learning Center

Stony Point, Hiddenite, Vshsti, Taylorsville, and Ellendale Fire Departments responded shortly after 1pm to the Small Hands Learning Center on Stony Point School Road in Stony Point. Alexander County Rescue and EMS also responded.

Alexander County Fire Marshal Mark Earle says around $30,000 in damage was done to the structure. He says the fire’s origin was on the exterior of the building and so far the cause is undetermined. Earle says it will take some work before the daycare can operate in the building.
