Newton Woman Held Under Large Bond After Drug Arrest

62-year-old Sonya Christina Coker of Newton was arrested Wednesday by Newton Police Officers. She’s charged with two counts of trafficking, opium or heroin, four counts of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place to keep controlled substance, three counts of manufacture, sell, deliver, or possess controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park, two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule II controlled substance, and one count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver methamphetamine.

Coker was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $475,000 bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (July 15).
