Newton Man Gets 66 To 95 Years For Statutory Rape

A Newton man will serve 66 to 95 years in prison after his conviction in Catawba County Superior Court on Tuesday.

35-year old Jonathan Ray Lail was found guilty at the conclusion of a 7-day trial on charges of statutory rape of a child by an adult, statutory rape of a child younger than 15, two counts of indecent liberties with a child and incest with a child under the age of 13.

The victim is now 16 and addressed Lail in court prior to the sentencing saying, “You didn’t break me. You pushed me, you pushed me again, but you didn’t break me.”
