Two Suspects Charged In Newton Drive-By Shooting

A Newton man has been charged in the Augusts 16th drive-by shooting at the Daybreak Apartments in Newton. The suspect was arrested early Monday and is charged with multiple offenses including attempted first-degree murder.

Letia Jamal Lyerly, 33, of Park LN., Newton, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and five counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property. The shooting allegedly was intended for multiple subjects. No injuries were reported.

The shooting happened just after 6:15 a.m. Sunday, August 16th as reported earlier on this website.

On Friday, August 24th, Dillion Lamont Staton, 25, of Newton was charged by Newton Police with seven felony counts of accessory after the fact. Warrants accuses Staton of driving Lyerly from the scene. Staton is being held under a $200,000 secured bond

Lyerly is being held without bond in the Catawba County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court today.
