Multiple agencies from two counties responded to a fire at a condo development in southern Caldwell County Sunday night (February 2). At approximately 10 p.m. firefighters from the Granite Falls Fire Department responded to Corbin Lane on Lake Hickory. In addition to the Granite Falls Fire Department, Grace Chapel Fire, Hickory Fire, Sawmills Fire, Caldwell County EMS, the Caldwell County Fire Marshals Office, Hickory Police, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to assist on the structure fire.
Hickory Firefighters received a request for mutual aid from Caldwell county emergency communications for a town house fire. Engine 3, Ladder 3, and Battalion 1 responded to the scene of the fire just across the U.S. 321 bridge to assist. Personnel from station 3 operated for over two hours, using the ladder as an elevated waterway to gain access to deep seated fire within the building, working alongside crews from Grace Chapel and Granite falls to bring the fire under control. Hickory Fire units left the scene shortly after midnight.
Reports state at least two of the condos were heavily damaged. No injuries have been reported. The fire is under investigation.
