Police in Morganton say a driver led officers on a high-speed chase into the city limits. It happened Tuesday, February 24th on Highway 18 North. Officers say the car was speeding as it entered Morganton and a chase followed. Police say speeds went over one hundred miles an hour during the pursuit.

The pursuit lasted about eight-and-a-half miles. The driver was later taken into custody. Police identified him as 19-year-old Michael Deandre Cowling of Dierdorf Lane in Morganton. He now faces several charges including flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, aggressive driving, and speeding. He is also charged with driving after consuming alcohol while under 21, failing to heed lights and sirens, and having an expired registration. Other charges include failing to stop at a stop sign, unsafe passing on a double yellow line, and failing to maintain lane control.

Cowling was given a $25,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
