The Mavericks dominated the Cougars in a game played in Taylorsville. The visitors from Union County led 21-0 after the first quarter and cruised. Running back Caleb Kelson scored three touchdowns and rushed for 119 yards, quarterback Evan Medders rushed for a pair of scores and went 11-19 passing for 154 yards.
The Cougars, playing with number of players injured or in COVID-19 protocol scored their only touchdown on the game’s final play when Cameron Lackey ran in from 9 yards. Landon Wike collected 10 tackles to lead the Alexander Central defense.
Marvin Ridge improves to 3-1, Alexander Central drops to 3-2. The Cougars will be idle on September 24th before opening league play when they host Ashe County on October 1st.
Injury update
Cougar LB Dalton Beck left the game with shoulder injury and did not return. Safety and #2 QB Tanner Moore left the game with a knee injury. The extent of the injuries are not known.
