Marion Man Charged With Rape In Catawba County

35-year-old Robbie Eugene Shumate of Marion was arrested Thursday by Catawba County Sheriff’s Deputies. He’s charged with statutory rape with a child 15-years-old or younger, sex offense with a child 15-years-old or younger, indecent liberties with a child, discharge a weapon into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon, and malicious conduct by a prisoner. Shumate is also charged on bills of indictment with habitual felon and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was incarcerated in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $575,000 bond. No court dates were listed.
