Man On Trial Charged With Having Drugs In Iredell County Jail

A man on trial and being held in custody in Iredell County has been charged with possession of drugs in jail.

According to Iredell Free News, Iredell County Deputies charged Austin Ray Harmon, 26, with felony possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility. He also faces additional charges, including misdemeanor simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Harmon is being held on a $750,000 bond related to the deaths of three individuals in a 2022 golf cart accident on Fort Dobbs Road in North Statesville.

The driver of the golf cart, Michael Shane Marlowe, 39, of Statesville, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A passenger, Bentley Marlowe, age 5, and  13-year-old Jada Marlowe of Statesville also perished as result of the crash.

Harmon, according to court testimony was impaired at the time of the fatal mishap. Testimony in the trial is scheduled to resume today.
