A Wilkesboro man was killed on 2nd Street in North Wilkesboro as result of a vehicle accident in which speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factor.
In a press release, North Wilkesboro Police say Jose Ramon Puebla-Lopez, 53, of Peachtree Drive, Wilkesboro, died at the scene of the midnight wreck on Monday, September 22nd.
Lopez was traveling south on 2nd Street at a high rate of speed (approximately 70 mph in a 35 mph zone). He crossed over into the oncoming lanes of travel just below N.C. Hwy 115, near River Road, ran off the road to the left, sideswiping a tree and going airborne into other trees along the railroad tracks before coming to a stop according to Police statement.
