Man In Custody After Burke County Shooting Incident

43-year-old Lyndon Dale McCorkle, Jr. of Jamestown Road in Morganton has been arrested by Burke County Sheriff’s Deputies. He’s charged with felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharge a weapon into occupied property, first-degree burglary, and assault by pointing a gun.

On Sunday (January 11) the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired on Sundown Road in Morganton. Upon arrival, deputies learned the suspect had already fled the scene. After interviewing witnesses, deputies identified Lyndon Dale McCorkle, Jr. as the suspect. McCorkle was later found by Morganton Department of Public Safety, taken into custody and transported to the hospital.
No other injuries were reported.

After being released from medical treatment, he was taken to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office, where he was charged with the felony counts. McCorkle received no bond, and his first court appearance was scheduled Monday (January 12).
