Man Gets Prison Sentence In Wilkes County After Entering Plea To Child-Sex Charges

A man will serve a minimum of 14 years and a maximum of almost 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree statutory sex offense with a child less than age 15 and related offenses in Wilkes Superior Court on Monday.

Robert Dale Billings Jr, 42, also pleaded guilty to four counts indecent liberties with a child and three counts apiece of statutory rape of a child less than 15 years old and incest with a child age 15 or younger.

Judge Craig Croom of Raleigh sentenced Billings. The prosecutor was Assistant District Attorney Matthew Leach.

The Waynesville Police Department arrested Billings in late March 2024 on charges filed by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office for offenses that occurred as long ago as 2001 and as recently as 2018 in Wilkes County. According to warrants, there was one female victim in the case.

Billings was living in Waynesville when arrested but formerly lived in Wilkesboro.
