A 21-year-old Greensboro man died while trying to rescue his sister from Lake Norman. According to published reports, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division says Dorian Jackson disappeared just before 7 p.m. Saturday, September 19th following a boating incident near Hearthstone Court in the Terrell area of Catawba County.
According to officials, Jackson’s sister, Faith Jackson, was in a kayak that capsized about 30 yards from a nearby dock. She was wearing a life jacket and was struggling in the water. Dorian Jackson, who was not wearing a life jacket, attempted to help his sister onto his kayak. Neighbors who witnessed the struggle entered the lake and were able to bring Faith Jackson safely to shore.
Officials say Dorian Jackson went underwater and did not resurface. Search crews from Sherrills Ford Fire, Denver Fire and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the search. His body was recovered from the lake around 1 p.m. Sunday
