The Man charged with the murder of a Lenoir-Rhyne University football player appeared in court Monday in Newton.
21-year old Quavius Shamond Izard is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 19-year old Omari Alexander. Alexander was found shot to death in his vehicle outside a Hickory apartment complex the morning of November 20th.Izard did not speak during his court appearance and instead responded to Judge Wesley Barkley’s questions by nodding. He requested and was assigned council.
Izard was arrested November 24th after a resident of Edgemont Road in Collettsville called the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office The Hickory Police Department said Monday that residents found Izard in one of their vehicles and held him at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived. He is facing various charges in Catawba County unrelated to this case, including larceny of motor vehicle charges, driving while impaired and drug possession.
Hailee Maureen Melanson, 20 of Conover, was charged with accessory after the fact. She and Izard remain in the Catawba County Jail without bond.Hickory Police have not indicated a possible motive for the killing.
