Boone Resident Charged With Murder Of Hickory Man

A Boone man is facing a murder charge after a Hickory man was found unresponsive over the weekend.

On Sunday, May 4th at approximately 11:40 pm, Deputies with the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, Boone Police Department along with Watauga Medics, Boone Fire Department and Watauga Rescue Squad, responded to the area of Health Center Drive and White Laurel Lane following a report of an unresponsive male.

The caller indicated that the individual identified as Darian L. Edwards, 40 of Hickory, was not conscious or breathing, and that CPR had been initiated by a bystander.

Investigators determined that the incident was the result of an assault. Despite extensive life-saving measures by medical personnel, Edwards succumbed to his injuries.

Christopher P. Ervin, 46 of Boone, was taken into custody and charged with Felony Murder. He’s being held in the Watauga County Detention Center under $1 million bond.
