Man Charged With Attempting To Run-Over Another Man

September 5, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

Brian David Beane

Police say a suspect has been taken into custody after allegedly trying to run over another man.

On Thursday, September 3rd, 66-year-old Brian David Beane of Dixie Avenue in Valdese was arrested in connection with a disturbance that occurred near the Food Lion store on East Union Street in Morganton.

The Morganton Department of Public Safety reports that Beane had been pursuing a relationship with a local woman. The woman’s boyfriend confronted Beane behind the Food Lion and warned him to stay away. During the confrontation, Beane allegedly attempted to run the boyfriend over with his dune buggy. The man fled into the wooded area behind the store, with Beane following on foot while carrying a firearm. Despite searching the area, Beane did not find the individual.

Upon arrival, police found Beane near his dune buggy. He attempted to leave by backing the vehicle toward an officer who was giving lawful commands. Beane eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. A firearm was recovered from the dune buggy.

Beane has been charged with resisting, delaying, and obstructing law enforcement officers, second-degree trespass, assault on a government official and carrying a concealed weapon. He was initially placed in the Burke County Jail without bond. He was no longer listed as an inmate as of earlier today.
