Natterrio Ledurr Goodwin
North Wilkesboro Police Chief Brad Mathis says that Natterrio Ledurr Goodwin, 37, of North Wilkesboro, was charged with felony assault causing physical injury to a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor assault on a government official, three counts of resisting a public officer, misdemeanor assault on a female, misdemeanor domestic violence, misdemeanor injury to personal property, misdemeanor possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers with the North Wilkesboro Police Department, along with Wilkes County EMS and the North Wilkesboro Fire Department, were dispatched at about 12:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, to the 700 block of D Street after a report of a strange odor that was causing breathing difficulties. Officers and firefighters determined the odor was oleoresin capsicum, commonly known as pepper spray.
Police said they learned that a domestic assault and disturbance had occurred at a nearby apartment. The alleged victim told officers that Goodwin had assaulted her by grabbing and striking her and spraying her with pepper spray. Wilkes County EMS treated the woman at the scene.
Officers located Goodwin near the residence, according to the press release. The suspect attempted to flee between two parked vehicles. A North Wilkesboro Officer approached him, and Goodwin allegedly struck the officer in the right jaw with a closed fist. Three officers and Goodwin fell down an embankment before officers handcuffed him, according to the report.
Police said Goodwin continued to resist after being placed in the back seat of a patrol vehicle.
Officers also found unprescribed pain medication and a pill crusher in Goodwin’s possession, according to police.
Goodwin was taken to the Wilkes County Jail, where he was held without bond.
