Man Charged After Lincolnton Placed On Lockdown

June 18, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Jerrod Moore

A suspect is in custody after a “credible shooting threat” prompted multiple buildings to be placed on lockdown in Lincolnton on Tuesday, town officials said.

Investigators say an employee of a Charlotte news station received a call around 9:30 a.m. from someone who said they were going to shoot people in downtown Lincolnton. Police shut down businesses and administrative buildings in the area to deal with the threat.

No active shooter was found, but investigators learned that Jerrod Moore was the one who threatened to commit the shooting. Investigators learned that Moore shot a gun into the ground in the downtown area.

Moore was located around 1 p.m. and arrested. He is charged with going armed to the terror of the public, discharging a firearm in city limits, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held in Lincoln County jail with a $250,000 bond.

Multiple people posted on Facebook about a potential shooter in downtown, including one person who claimed that police told them to seek shelter.
