Maiden Man Pleads Guilty To Charges Related To Stabbing Death

A Maiden man charged in connection to a murder five years ago received a prison sentence following a guilty plea. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Jacoby Alexander Brooks pleaded guilty this month to voluntary manslaughter in connection to the death of 18-year-old Cody David Souther of Bessemer City. The incident occurred on June 14, 2021.

As previously reported, Lincoln County Deputies were dispatched to a residence at the evening of June 14, 2021 in response to a 911 call regarding a stabbing. A man had been stabbed at an address on N.C. Highway 150 East. When officers arrived at the scene, the victim was found on the porch of the residence with a wound to the upper chest area.

Lincoln County EMS transported the victim to Atrium Health – Lincoln where he was pronounced deceased. Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspect who had fled the scene in a vehicle. Officers found the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Loop Road and Highway 150 East and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect, Brooks, was taken into custody without incident. According to police reports, Brooks confessed to stabbing the victim.

Following his guilty plea, Brooks was sentenced to a term of 64 to 89 months in prison.
