Lenoir- On Saturday, October 3rd, at approximately 07:28 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on US 64 near Beecher Anderson Road, in Caldwell County. A 2012 Hyundai passenger car was traveling West on US 64 before crossing the center lane and collided head on with an Eastbound 1997 Ford F150.
The driver of the Hyundai, Carol Lynn Gilbert 55, of Lenoir succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the collision. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The driver of the Ford, Christopher Seth Avery, 33, of Lenoir, and a juvenile passenger were both transported to Caldwell UNC Health with non-life-threatening injuries.
The initial investigation is still ongoing to determine what contributed to the collision. There will be no charges in this case.
