LENOIR – On Tuesday, November 5, at approximately 2:35 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Caldwell County on Calico Road near Townsend Farm Lane.
During rainy conditions, a 2008 Nissan Sentra was traveling north on Calico Road when the driver lost control, drove off the right side of the road, and struck an embankment. The driver then re-entered the roadway, drove off the left side of the road, and collided with a tree.
The driver, Alexis Makayla Russell, 22, of Lenoir, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Russell was not restrained by a seatbelt.
The initial investigation indicates excessive speed for conditions to be the contributing factor in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, Calico Road was closed in the area for approximately three hours.
