The Cougars won a thriller Thursday evening in Taylorsville.
Braydon Rowe scored from 30 yards with 11 seconds remaining in regulation and Kenji Vang added a two-point conversion putting the Baby Cougars in the driver’s seat in the Northwestern Conference.
AC was out gained 323-266 on the night and a late turnover gave Watauga an extra possession that they used to tie the game with 55 seconds remaining. That’s when the Cougars found a supply of “Magic Dust” going 51 yards in two plays capped by Rowe’s run to the end zone.
Rowe scored twice and gained 116 yards in 14 carries to pace the Blue and Gold. Vang scored a pair of touchdowns and Jeremiah Payne added another. Wade Queen led the ACHS defense with 12 tackles.
AC is now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. Watauga suffered their first loss of the season and are now 5-1 and 1-1 in conference.
The Baby Cougars will play Monday in a non-conference make-up game at Hickory.
