Iredell-Statesville School Board Meeting Ended After Heated Exchange

January 14, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

The Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education meeting got a bit tense Monday night. So much so, the scheduled meeting was halted.

Reports indicate that comments between board member Anita Kurn and Chairman Kevin Angell became heated. The vice-Chairman Doug Knight made a motion to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by another board member.

In a statement issued by the district after the meeting, Chairman Angell apologized to the public for canceling the regular meeting.
“We apologize to students, families, and staff scheduled for recognitions and will ensure those occur at a future meeting. The board will conduct routine business in a respectful and orderly manner at the next meeting that will most likely be scheduled for next week,” Angell said.
