Iredell County Man Charged With Making Threats To Schools

A Mooresville man has been charged with making threats to multiple Iredell County Schools.

On Wednesday, October 18th at approximately 10:30 p.m., Iredell County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers began receiving text messages regarding threats of violence to West Iredell High School, Lake Norman High School, The Brawley School, and Lakeshore Middle School. These threats were forwarded to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Threat Assessment Detectives.

The investigation determined the threats were made by Christopher Enrique Avelar, age 20 of Mooresville. Arrest warrants were obtained.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, Deputies located Avelar at his home and took him into custody. He’s charged with four counts of felony communicating threats of mass violence on educational property.

Avelar is being held without bond in the Iredell County Detention Center. Per a judge’s order, he must remain in custody until released to a family member.
